When it comes to shipping, you should be able to feel good about disposing of the packaging. Our Green Chocolate commitment is that everything we send to you can either be eaten, reused, recycled, or is 100% biodegradable. Our Ridiculous Chocolate is of course to be eaten – though be careful, you’ll be ordering more in no time.
First we package our chocolate in certified biodegradable & compostable cello bags. We purchase these from our friends at Nashville Wraps. From their Website: these bags are made from wood cellulose fibers sourced with sustainable forestry principles. Certified biodegradable, compostable and made carbon zero. Meets ASTM D6400, EN13432 standards for CA and other states. Meets FDA requirements for direct food contact.
Next we go to our shipping containers. We ship our Ridiculous Chocolate in cardboard containers that can be recycled. We looked high and low to find a non Styrofoam insulator that would enable us to ship our chocolates at any time of the year and are thankful to the good folks at R.N.C. Industries. Their Control Temp Packaging is made mostly of a special type of inert mineral felt encapsulated in a small amount of stable oriented polyester film. This product has been proven to be completely biodegradable within 12 months. Not only is the product eco-friendly, but it is also superior to other shipping material of the same thickness. Feel free to give them a call for your shipping needs and tell Angela or Joe that we said hello.
The only other issue in our green chocolate commitment is the reusable product. We Use Gel Packs from R.N.C. to keep our chocolates the right temperature. We’re sure if you look in your freezer right now, you probably have at least one reusable ice pack. We send two with each standard order.
During the hottest months of the summer, we may switch over to dry ice, depending on your location.
